Lore & Background

Asura is defined as an evil god and the first Kishin, a status that distinguishes him from witches or standard weapon-meister pairs. His history involves nearly plunging the entire world into madness, leading to his initial sealing in a hidden chamber beneath the DWMA's 'Book of Eibon' library by Shinigami himself. The plot revolves around Medusa forcing Crona, her child and meister of the demon sword Ragnarok, to collect human souls to transform Crona into a Kishin and revive Asura. His return is not merely physical; his spreading madness causes chaos globally and prompts Medusa's sister Arachne to reform her organization, Arachnophobia, posing a serious threat to DWMA. Asura was later defeated and sealed on the moon by Shinigami using the 'Demon Tool' (the 'Book of Eibon' and the 'Demon Sword' Ragnarok's power) and the combined efforts of Maka, Soul, and others; Asura's own blood was used earlier to break his madness, but the sealing itself did not use his blood.

In Their Own Story

Medusa and her cohorts successfully attack the Death Weapon Meister Academy to revive Asura, who had been sealed beneath the school. Following his revival, Asura engages in a brief battle with Shinigami before leaving to spread chaos around the world. Later, when Crona is provoked by Medusa into killing her and getting taken by insanity, Maka detects Asura's location on the cartoonish moon within the atmosphere while searching for Crona. DWMA launches an attack on the moon aided by witches after Death the Kid convinces them to establish a temporary alliance. During this battle, Crona absorbs Asura's body before being overtaken by him. Ultimately, Maka, Black Star, and Death the Kid restore Crona's sanity and defeat Asura by sealing him on the moon with his own blood.
