In Their Own Story

The rain slicked the rooftop tiles of Death City as the Death God stood silhouetted against the moon. His skeletal fingers rested on his cane, watching the academy grounds below where students trained under the floodlights. A soul drifted up from the city streets, faint and trembling. He caught it gently in his palm, feeling its weight settle into his chest cavity. Another day of balance maintained. Behind him, the heavy doors creaked open as Lady Death brought tea. No words were needed; they both knew the world was still holding together.
